This summer Istenič has secured a new importer for its wines to the UK, adding to its listing with central and eastern European specialist importer Novel Wines. From August, five of Istenič’s award-winning traditional method sparkling wines will now be imported by Wickham’s Wines in Exeter.
The winery’s flagship bottle No. 1 Special Cuvée leads the range, completed by the Gourmet Rosé and Prestige Extra Brut classic sparklings. Wickham’s is also bringing in two unique, luxury sparklings from Istenič: the Decanter Gold medal-winning and Sommelier Critics’ Choice Cuvée Natura, a no-added sulphur blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rumeni Plavac aged 12 months on lees, and the Rare, a sparkling that celebrates the golden grape of Slovenia: Rumeni Plavac.

Istenič is the first Slovenian producer Wickham’s will stock, recognising the high quality of the winery’s traditional method fizz. Wickham’s is well known for its French wines and was named the Decanter Specialist Retailer of the Year award for its southern and regional France range. The merchant has also been recognised by the International Wine Challenge.
